Colombia’s renewal capacity will reach 5.9 GW in 2030

Currently, Chile, Brazil, Mexico and Peru, who are members of the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas, have begun to adopt a more energy-efficient economy, which makes them stand out with important achievements in this area. This reality leads us, as a country, to have a long way to go in dealing with social, technological and economic barriers that may prevent accelerated growth regarding the issue of renewable energy in Colombia.

The projections for 2030 are quite encouraging and certainly invite us to continue working on energy efficiency. Thus, the installed capacity of renewable energy is expected to increase from 2% in 2018 to 14% in 2025, with a further increase to 21% in 2030.

This targeted growth can be attributed to new government policies that provide funding for renewable energy projects, energy efficiency measures and the announcement of renewable energy auctions in 2018, says GlobalData, a leading data and analysis firm.
