Industrias Ectricol S.A.S., committed to the most innovative expansion and modernization projects, had the opportunity to participate in the elaboration of soundproofing panels for the North American company,Blast Deflector Inca development carried out at the El Dorado International Airport in the city of Bogota, which involves installations for the tuning of jet propulsion engines in modern aircrafts.
Blast Deflector Inc. is a company with more than 20 years of experience manufacturing soundproof barriers for jet engine testing, which was founded in 1957. It offers a complete line of solutions in terms of noise protection barriers to passenger buildings, cargo services and maintenance at different airports around the world. That is the case of the barriers built at Memphis International Airport in Tennessee; Calgary International Airport in Alberta, Canada; Sofia International Airport in Bulgaria; Barajas International Airport in Madrid, Spain; Portland International Airport in Portland, Oregon;among many others, and now at El Dorado International Airport in Bogota, Colombia.
In the case of the city of Bogota, a C-shaped enclosure was built with two side walls of more than 105 mts long, a back wall of 95 mts and a height of 14.8 mts. To cover the requirements of this monumental structure, it was necessary to elaborate more than 1 427 modules of 3.75 x 0.9 mts with an average weight of 80 kgs and each one containing two boxes made of galvanized sheet properly punched, two soundproofing pads made of felt containing the same volume in glass wool and a fixing cover for boxes and pads. For the assembly process of all the elements, about 45 000 screws with their respective nuts and approximately 90 000 washers, were used, installed one by one, and torqued according to the precise adjustment required for the assembly. During the execution of the work, activities were carried out such as folding the metal sheets, manufacturing soundproofing pads, assembling and adjusting the metal boxes to the fixing covers, installing and tightening the screws and transporting the panels to the airport.
